Irish rookies in La Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro

Irish solo sailors Joan Mulloy and Tom Dolan will be on the start line (26/9) at Le Harve for a highly competitive race through the English Channel and criss-crossing the Bay of Biscay known for its rough seas and violent storms  emanating from the Atlantic Ocean.

La Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro is a one-design, without assistance timed race of circa 1700nm competed over four legs and finishing at Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, racing 24 hours-per-day on 33ft yachts normally with a crew of eight.

The race rookies will be competing over short sprint legs of 1-4 days with little time for recovery between legs.

"Any lapse in concentration can result in at best loss of places, at worst, well' it's not worth thinking about," remarked Tom Dolan.

Joan Mulloy said they were "really excited" about the race:

"We can't wait to get out and compete against the best. We're both so proud to be backed by Irish sponsors and supporters. My campaign is led by Taste the Atlantic - A Seafood Journey and Tom's by Smurfit Kappa."
